| I’d probably forget a lot of details so I’ll abbreviate the combat that was continued from last time:
| |||
| Bog continues to square off against the two guards by the chamber’s doorway. He finds them hard to hit due to their shimmering magic; although he cripples the leg of one and that man remained prone; but they find him impossible to harm due to his powerful shield. And they keep confusing him with their feinting that keeps him overextended. Shrett is quickly fully healed by Boamund’s Truestone and gets himself re-armed, back into the fight. Fraud heads out a side doorway trying to get around the combat, now outdoors and facing two elite guardsmen whose heads sprouted fleshy tentacles and whose skin rippled like jelly, warping wounds back together. They, like others you’d faced, call out “So cometh Urcheth!” to invoke magics, and wear invaluable iron armour—this Artukan sure is rolling in funds!
| |||
| Two more figures enter the servant’s quarters. Boamund soon confronts a copper Jolanti that has double arms which slapped furiously at him, while the hovering, unblinking guardian eye tries (to no avail) to overcome Boamund with barrages of Palsy spells. He gives the Jolanti a wicked slashing chest wound but it slaps that with one hand and repairs some of the damage. Yet with repeated blows he wears it down and smashes it to bits. The eye-thing flees as he chases after it.
| |||
| Shrett enters the fray outside of the buildings where Fraud is double-teamed,
| |||
| An elite guardsman gets tired of waiting for an opening with Bog, so he scolds the guardsman there and pushes him out of the way, engaging Bog. Another elite guardsman had tried to invoke the corrupt “blessing” of Urcheth but something terrified him and he backed away for a while before he gets his gumption up again to return to the fight. Yet by then, Boamund is freed up to enter the stairwell behind Bog, as they together kill the prone guard and the elite guard who had stepped in.
| |||
| So finally the battle turns in your favour, and no new enemies appear. You rush the remaining two guards, dispatch them and engage the Jolanti from all sides, and wear it down with many blows. Finally its chest collapsesand it falls to bits. And the battle, and Artukan’s mansion, falls almost silent. Yet Bog hears some sounds downstairs and you rush that way, continuing to the ground floor from whence some fresh, cold outside air wafts. You see big muddly prints where the Jolanti had entered, and there are two more elite guards by the open doorway of the front foyer of Artukan’s mansion. You slay them in very short order. The foyer is clean, orderly, and tastefully decorated with Estali arts: images of horses in fields, sunny meadows over rolling hills, shining walled cities; and more valuable items on display: Paintings, vases, tapestries, etc.
| |||
| Bog hurries around the ground floor to the next room, and you spread out that way on the left corner of the mansion. There is a guardroom outfitted with beds, a table with 4 chairs, weapon rack, etc. Frescoes of Galanini warriors performing, facing monsters, battling armies, defending cities against sieges. A gong for sounding alarms. There is a dining area dominated by a large table with comfortable carved wooden stools topped with luxurious cushions; each a different design. It's all surrounded by frescoes of Safelstran nobility through the ages, each doing some great deed. Bog normally would be thrilled to enter the kitchen but he has murder on his mind: anyway, it’s a well-equipped facility with oven, firepit, counters, etc., and Bog bypasses the cook and 4 servants that are trying to hide from danger and seem to pose no threat. The next room is fully stocked with shelves, amphorae, sacks and vats of a huge array of goods for the kitchen. Bog continues down a hallway from there, followed by Fraud and then Boamund; Shrett has remained in the foyer to cover your rear.
| |||
| Down that hallway stomps a Rune Jolanti: a great grey stone construct etched in glowing golden designs, with one arm and fist enlarged into a great bludgeon. Bog takes a bad wound to his left arm, but his berserk fury of Zorak Zoran is unstoppable,
| |||
| Yet now, in the silence of the lull of battle, Fraud rushes Bog to try and calm him so that Fraud could treat his arm wound, and Bog succumbs to Fraud’s soothing words, collapsing in exhaustion in that hallway. That corridor opens into a room just a short distance ahead. Fraud begins to treat Bog’s injury but there are scuttling noises from back down the hallway, and much to your horror, two Krarshtkids come hopping down the hall from the storeroom direction. One closes with Boamund, taking a body wound and trying in vain to leap on him or goo him up with pratzim, then he kills it. The other, though, holds back as Fraud closes with it, and licks at him with its acid-dripping tongue. Fraud tries to defend himself but it is his precious obsidian-metal helm that suffers, and it is ruined. He and Boamund kill the Chaos horror, and there is some small comfort, at least, that Fraud feels less intimidated by these children of Krarsht now that he has bested some. He and Boamund find a suitable iron helm from one of the guards and reunite the group with Shrett. (in the foyer, I think)
